Today, as we do every year at Take This, we’d like to step back and honor the memory of Matt Hughes, the game journalist whose suicide catalyzed our founders to do more than grieve, and to found an organization dedicated to erasing the stigma of mental illness in the game community.
Suicide is always a tragedy, but we try to find ways of rising again from the depths of that despair, wanting to find meaning in loss. At Take This, that meaning is distilled into a tireless commitment to helping other members of our community forge a new, more hopeful, more informed, and more sustainable path towards the acceptance and support of mental health needs in games.
So today, during this strange and uniquely difficult year, I’d like to remind you that there is support for everyone. Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with our resources, to find the support you or a friend needs, and make sure that you’re staying connected to people you care about – whether it’s through the Take This Discord or another positive online community – like one of our Streaming Ambassadors.
It’s OK to not be OK, and it’s also OK to ask for help!
