Take This remains committed to creating a gaming community that welcomes and supports people experiencing mental health challenges. This includes supporting the wellbeing of an alleged survivor of sexual assault and those who support them. The serious allegations involving egregious employee behavior and the termination of the person reporting the behavior at Wyrmwood Gaming violate the ideals and mission of our organization. Wyrmwood has since released a written statement and accompanying video that are troubling and fall outside the ethical standards of Take This.
Following a thorough review, Take This is ending its charity partnership with Wyrmwood Gaming, effective immediately, halting all joint activations, including the production and sale of Hope Shields.
The Hope Shield partnership, which began in 2016 after Wyrmwood lost a member of its community due to mental health challenges, has become a symbol of Take This and our mission to build community. Many people have told us that the pocket-sized shields have saved their lives because they serve as a physical reminder that at least one person cares about them.
In addition, the Hope Shields have become a sizable part of Take This’ annual fundraising budget. Wyrmwood Gaming has been both our longest-standing charity partner and has contributed to our success in no small way. This context makes our decision that much more difficult and important.
Take This continues to work tirelessly to support both the people who make games and the people who love them. For resources and support during this challenging time, please visit our repository of Mental Health Resources and Help/Crisis Lines.
